By exploiting the existing SHGs microfiance institutions are able to create a strong social security. But the microfinance institutions’ model is slightly different from SHGs. SHGs are run by the people themselves. These groups are controlled by the head elected from the group by the members. But in Microfinance institutions’ though the people decide on most of the proceedings of the particular group, the institutions have great control over what the group does because the funds are tranfered to the intitutions immediately once it is collected from the members. social security and the MFIs’ control over the member are the two aspects which make the Microfinance business a Success story in Tamilnadu
